Twitter to Open Office in Amsterdam

 Sales Office Will Handle Sponsored Tweets and Advertising

Twitter, the popular social networking site, has announced plans to open an office in Amsterdam. Company officials said the popularity of Twitter in the Netherlands is one of the main reasons the company has decided to locate an office there.

The Amsterdam office will be a sales office, as Twitter moves forwards with plans to sell advertising and sponsored tweets on a country-specific basis.

According to recent figures from Newcom Research & Consultancy there are more than 3 million Dutch users active on Twitter, and more than one in four Dutch internet users visits Twitter and LinkedIn every month.

Additionally, almost the entire population of Dutch internet users access social media (96 percent).  More than 40 percent of Dutch businesses with at least 10 employees use social media, according to a report from Statistics Netherlands.
